If the Mercedes 300SL is legendary, it is thanks to its design completely surprising for the time, its high performance and mythical butterfly doors. In 1957, Mercedes replaced the original 300SL by the 300SL Roadster, a simplified version abandoning the doors "Gullwing" for a more conventional system. But the compromise for this movement towards orthodoxy was a slightly softer and more relaxing suspension, to satisfy the American clientele looking for this type of supercar, but also a slightly more muscular engine.
In terms of ergonomics, comfort, manufacturing quality and finish, but also a global driving experience, the Mercedes 300SL Roadster would embarrass a contemporary sports car. It is a perfect machine and ergonomic, with an exceptional engineering evident in all its aspects.
